Swansea Magistrates' Court heard Gilliams was subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time of the incident for a previous assault on his wife.

The solicitor said that following the May assault there had been a reconciliation between husband and wife, his client was "deeply ashamed" about what he had done in the early hours of Boxing Day.
District Judge David Parson said given the nature of the injury caused, the repeat victim, the domestic Lookign, and the fact alcohol had played a part Looking for a wife in Swansea had been an "extraordinary decision" by the CPS to reduce the charge to one of common assault.
